Through a newly forged partnership with Project Discovery, Wesley aims to enhance childhood development and prevent the ongoing cycle of poverty by helping youth residents successfully transition to post-secondary education.
Stressing the importance of education to youth, Project Discovery, through its partner agencies, provides workshops to improve basic skills (e.g., study skills, time management, financial planning, etc.) and assist students with the process of completing applications (admission and financial aid) to post-secondary institutions.
Beginning in the fall, our Strawbridge Square/Lincolnia and Wexford Manor Community Resource Centers (CRCs) will provide academic and enrichment activities for middle and high school students living in these and surrounding communities. Programming will be designed to engage “college and career” activities, including homework help (tutoring), workshops, college visits, social enrichment activities, mentoring, and more.
As a result, a greater number of students who would not have gone on to post-secondary education will elect to continue their education.
