Renewed Comfort, Safety, and Accessibility

Quarry Station Seniors Apartments (“Quarry Station”), located in Manassas, VA, is an affordable housing community for older adults, developed by Wesley Housing in 2002.

 

In 2022, Quarry Station began substantial renovations including improvements to the safety, comfort, and wellbeing of the residents, adding a one-bedroom unit, and deepening affordability levels of the existing units. The community completed renovations this spring and is now 100% leased. Of the 98 residents enjoying the upgraded apartment community, 57 were prior residents who returned post-renovation.

“We are thrilled to resume on-site activities at Quarry Station,” shared Laurel Turay, Resident Services Coordinator. “In addition to our usual social programs, we have partnered with organizations like the Prince William Area Agency on Aging. Together, we are introducing evidence-based programs such as Bingocize, a unique blend of bingo and exercise, as well as Matter of Balance, a specialized program aimed at reducing the fear of falling and enhancing physical activity among the older adults who live in our community.”

 

With its extensive renovations, thriving community, and commitment to promoting independence and quality of life for older adults, Quarry Station will continue to be a place where individuals can live comfortably and affordably for years to follow.

 

Located next to historic Old Town Manassas, within easy access to public bus lines, a train station served by VRE and Amtrak lines, multiple grocery stores, as well as several retail and recreational options, Wesley Housing’s Quarry Station features 80 one- and two-bedroom apartments designed specifically for seniors and restricted at 30-60% of the Area Median Income. Eight (8) units are fully accessible, and two (2) units are accessible for individuals with sensory impairments. The building includes a wealth of community spaces including a hobby room, library, TV room, computer room, multipurpose room, and a new gym.

 

Renovations included efficiency improvements to HVAC systems; installation of new water-saving fixtures; improvements to the accessibility and durability of common area spaces; the addition of a new one-bedroom unit (bringing the total up to 80 units) and an exercise room; improvements to the building envelope; upgrades to parking lot and outdoor areas to increase safety, accessibility, beauty, and usability; and selected replacements and repairs as needed.
