Through our partnership with Project Discovery, a post-secondary access program, teens from Wexford Manor and Strawbridge Square Apartments took field trips to colleges such as Howard University and Marymount University. Students toured the campuses and learned about the variety of academic programs offered.
Eighth and ninth graders from Strawbridge Square especially enjoyed touring the classrooms and talking with current students on campus. For residents like Salsa H. of Wexford Manor, college visits provide motivation and excitement for the future. “I’m excited to study history in the future,” she said, “but I’m most excited to get the college experience of interacting with other students and being independent.”
Through Project Discovery, Wesley aims to enhance adolescent development and prevent the ongoing cycle of poverty by providing college and career activities that help youth residents successfully transition to post-secondary education.
Site visits to local college campuses afford students an early opportunity to learn more about the admissions process, financial aid, and student life on campus so they can prepare themselves for the future.
