More families will have access to affordable homes in the Arlandria-Chirilagua neighborhood of Alexandria City, thanks to a redevelopment led by Community Lodgings, Inc. (CLI) that will more than triple the number of affordable homes at 3908 Elbert Avenue.
CLI, a transitional and affordable housing provider in Alexandria, is partnering with Wesley Housing to transform Elbert Avenue Apartments into a larger, modern, and sustainable affordable housing community.
The redevelopment will replace the existing 28-unit affordable housing property with a new approximately 91-unit affordable multifamily community, creating more opportunities for families to live near jobs, schools, local businesses, and community resources. As housing costs continue to rise, expanding access to affordable homes helps ensure that people who contribute to Alexandria’s neighborhoods and economy can continue to call the city home.
CLI and Wesley Housing have collaborated in the Arlandria-Chirilagua neighborhood for more than 18 years. Since Wesley Housing’s acquisition of nearby Beverly Park Apartments back in 2005, the organizations have worked together to support local families and connect residents with programs and resources. Many Wesley residents have participated in CLI programming over the years, reflecting a longstanding commitment to strengthening the neighborhood and expanding access to opportunity.
CLI has successfully advanced the project through zoning and development approvals with the City of Alexandria. As the community moves forward, CLI and Wesley Housing will continue working together to secure financing and advance the redevelopment toward construction.
