Wesley Housing’s Resident Services team continues to grow its capacity and reach through robust partnerships with universities and associated service-based work-studyprograms. This semester, 12 students, including interns and a fellow, will support our resident services work, contributing more than 4,000 hours of service across Wesley Housing communities.
These students play a meaningful role in advancing resident well-being by supporting programming related to education, health and wellness, employment readiness, youth enrichment, and community engagement, while gaining hands-on experience in affordable housing and social services.
Building on long-standing partnerships with graduate-level social work programs at George Mason University (GMU) and Virginia Commonwealth University, Wesley Housing is excited to welcome a new institutional partnership with Fordham University in New York, expanding our ability to attract talented students committed to service and social impact. We are also proud to host a GMU Bonner Fellow, part of GMU’s four-year, service-based leadership program that emphasizes civic engagement, democracy, and community-driven change across the DC metro region.
These partnerships are mutually beneficial: they allow Wesley Housing to deepen resident support while helping students develop the skills, values, and real-world experience needed to pursue careers in social work, public service, and community development. As the number of communities we serve and the need for supportive servicescontinues to grow, this expanded intern and fellow cohort is a vital part of how Wesley Housing shows up for residents – today and into the future.
