Wesley Housing’s summer enrichment programs were a resounding success, engaging 85 youth and 180 adults across 15 of our communities. QUEST and the newly launched ODYSSEY for older adults, provided residents with fun, educational, and hands-on activities that fostered an “always learning” mindset and supported social/emotional wellness. These programs were hosted at our Community Resource Centers, which are located right on our apartment campuses, eliminating typical barriers to access such as cost and transportation.
During this year’s QUEST youth program, themed “Out of this World,” rising first through sixth graders embarked on a journey to explore outer space. They made solar system replicas, had guest speakers from NASA, visited the National Air & Space Museum, and so much more!
QUEST is designed to combat summer learning loss and allows campers to participate in fun, hands-on, educational activities, with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM); literacy (reading and writing development); and social and emotional wellness. Through these activities, outdoor recreation, and field trips throughout the Washington, DC area, our campers made lasting memories, improved self-esteem and prepared for the school year ahead.
New in 2024, Wesley launched ODYSSEY, a summer fun day for older adults, ensuring everyone has the opportunity, to learn, grow, and enjoy the summer.
For these new campers at four communities, ODYSSEY provided a day of arts, crafts, food, and games, allowing residents to socialize and bond with peers and engage in stimulating tasks, promoting well-being and vitality.
Our partner, SHARE of McLean, hosted a digital literacy program at The Fallstead that covered the history of the internet, as well as common scams and how to avoid them.
