With programs designed for residents of all ages, Wesley Housing’s summer initiatives saw record participation this year – a testament to the trust and relationships we continue to build with our residents.
Our QUEST summer enrichment program served students in grades 1–6 across communities with an exciting “Under the Sea” adventure. Campers explored ocean-themed STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) and literacy activities, practiced healthy habits, and enjoyed field trips, including visits to local aquariums. They also got creative with crafts, making pirate hats and eye patches to wear during a thrilling treasure hunt to find hidden treasure chests.
Programs reached full capacity at several communities, with up to 27 children attending daily. The camps also provided paid leadership opportunities to five teen counselors, some who also live in our communities. Counselors offered peer support while gaining valuable professional experience.
For communities not hosting a full camp week, Family Fun Days offered connection in a single afternoon, drawing up to 150 residents at some communities. These gatherings featured games, crafts, and shared meals, strengthening bonds between neighbors and celebrating summer together.
Our ODYSSEY summer enrichment program for older adults, hosted at four communities, delivered meaningful engagement through themed crafts, food, and games that encouraged wellness and social connection.
Residents enjoyed health and wellness-focused activities like guided dance sessions that encouraged movement and joy. Creative arts programming was especially popular, with participants building birdhouses for community gardening spaces, tie-dying shirts, joining storytelling and cultural identity discussions, and taking part in therapeutic painting workshops.
This summer’s success would not have been possible without the support of our generous sponsors. Thank you to our Silver Sponsor, Harkins Builders for helping to make these experiences possible.
