In early April, Wesley Housing submitted a concept plan to the City of Alexandria for ParcView II, the proposed redevelopment of the ParcView Apartments site at 5380 Holmes Run Parkway.
Later in the month, Wesley Housing held its first community meeting to introduce the concept and general timeline for the renovations to ParcView Apartments and the new development on the existing surface parking lot. Details can be found on the project webpage.
Over the next year, the project team will host several more community meetings. We invite you and your neighbors to be involved in this process. Keeping neighbors informed and engaged throughout the redevelopment is a top priority.
At this stage in the process, working closely with City staff, residents, and the community is critical to refine the redevelopment proposal to make this a quality, affordable family property, inspired by and for the community.
Community engagement helps ensure that the community is part of the planning and decision making process of a project, and that their values, needs and wants are being reflected in what is being constructed and planned in their neighborhood. Through community engagement, a project may also experience improved design, increased acceptability, and a more equitable distribution of benefits, to name a few.
Wesley Housing has a successful track record in working closely with neighbors, development partners, and community members in projects of similar scope, including three projects that are currently under construction in Northern Virginia (The Waypoint, The Arden, and The Cadence). In all of these cases, community input was a valuable step of the predevelopment process in helping create properties that are more sensitive to the local community’s needs and preferences.
